We can create any future we can imagine: Designing new school models based on games
“If I ‘ll be happy somewhere; Or reach the fullness somewhere; Or learn real secrets somewhere; Or save the world somewhere; Or feel stronger somewhere; Or help someone somewhere; I can also do it in reality.” (Eliezer Yudkowskyr). — People are tired of the reality. On average , a young up to the age of 21 years will 10,000 hours in video games. But what is causing this mass exodus of reality? The answer is simple: video games are filling needs that simple reality can not fill. The century’s challenge is to transform society models from these new kind of platforms.
This project is about how we can transform the actual school model through the design of new models based on gaming platforms and new technologies of digital immersion.— Games optimize the human experience and help us to do amazing things in community. It provides us huge involvement, more happiness in everyday life, connection between people, makes us feel more rewarded for employing our best efforts. Furthermore, it creates new perspectives and new ways to make a difference in the real world. — Most schools today are based on the obsolete last century educational model. If we take this concept to the teaching and education field in an effective way, we would be revolutionizing not only this field, but it would be a humanity revolution.
The objective of this project is to design a school model based on the power that games have. A digital and analog school: realities merged and built by all. An incredible universe of possibilities arises with that aspiration, since we consider a world where any reality we want to build is possible. And why not start with education and with the manner we grasp the world? — “Teaching is not to transfer knowledge but to create the possibilities for the production or construction .” (Paulo Freire). — We can no longer ignore to consider the games as separate from our own real lives and our real work. The games fill our real lives with positive emotions, positive activity, positive experiences and positive forces.
Our challenge is to promote greater integration between games and our everyday lives and embrace them as a platform for collaboration and development of the society. Exploring the power of games to produce a real change: a better reality will be possible. And in this case, our future together will be incredibly fantastic.
