Steps of Heroes

The Steps of Heroes video is a personal depiction of my life. It begins with me as a young boy growing up and having many influences in my life. In this video I have highlighted 3 distinct individuals:

First in line are teachers who had such a profound impact on how I viewed and learnt to understand the world around me. School is where, outside my family home, I met and interacted with different people from different background all in the same vicinity called the classroom. Here my mind was expanded, my outlook enlarged and my vision increased.

As a teenager my neighbor’s home was undergoing renovation. For a couple of months I interacted with a builder whom became my friend. From him, an unlikely source of wisdom, I learnt the fundamentals of life. Firstly of being a person of integrity, keeping to my word as a young man even when things get tough or judged unfairly. He taught me patience and investment and that the greatest strength is in showing kindness to people.

He said these values are a strong foundation, just like a house needs to have a strong foundation before you see the beauty of the structure.I learnt the heart of compassion personified when as a young child I got sick. All I remember was seeing concern on my families faces and not understanding why there was sadness surrounding me. The nurse who took care of me, understood sickness and was always calm, cool and collected.

Providing me that beacon of hope and pillar of strength on my road to recovery and peace during a time of uncertainty regarding my health. Life’s a journey and I seek to depict that in my video. I want you to experience my life through this visual representation. To see how my life has been impacted and the journey I am yet to embark. The possibilities of where my feet will travel fills me with so much excitement for my future and the diverse people I will meet along the way who will influence me just like the people who influenced my past.

We all have those heroes that stand out when it matters most and shape our lives without even knowing it. Thank you for sharing with us the heroes that have nurtured you to be the man you are today. I have learnt that every encounter is an opportunity for impact, whether it’s me or the other person doing the impacting. I hope that you win this scholarship so that your steps inspire others.
