PREAMBLE Most problems are due to misunderstandings and it’s completely understandable. It’s hard enough trying to comprehend ourselves every once in a while. Now, try getting to know someone else’s thoughts, feelings and more. Mother Teresa is a quintessential example of putting herself in someone else’s shoes. Her whole life is a demonstration that LOVE is the key for a better world. Yet, if we’ve learnt something from world history, is that there hasn’t been precisely an excess of love between nations. Certainly, there wasn’t much of it in any of those catastrophic wars. None of them has ever tried understanding the others. And trying to change this way of thinking is hard. But here’s a start…

PROCESS Given the fact that the main cause of the problem is the lack of knowledge of other cultures, the proposal must provide that information somehow, while allowing some interaction between people. Adults are less likely to change their mind. Kids are easily moldable, but do not care. In the other hand, young adults, not only do have the mental capacity and knowledge, but are also our immediate future. Even so, the final result should be available for other ages.

FINAL RESULT As a result, taking into account likes and dislikes of the target audience, it’s been proposed a mobile app which mixes two different things. 1 – Trivia Game. By playing with someone from other country, you will be learning from his/hers. At the same time they will be learning from yours. 2 – Community. You will be able of keeping in contact with people you met by playing, getting to know even more about the other culture.

NAME SELECTION In ancient Greece during the Olympic Games wars were suspended, so that nations would be comfortable and could enter or allow the entrance of other nations to theirs. It was thought that every nation was protected by Zeus during that period, and messing with any nation meant messing with him. This was known as Olympic Peace or Olympic Truce. With this in mind, there could not be other name rather than “Culture Truce” for this app, which carries the meaning thereof.

HOW TO You will start by picking a country, and an opponent will be assigned. At that moment, the trivia game starts. There will be a chat available for your use. You will start each round by shaking your phone so the 7 categories are mixed. You will be asked a question according to the category displayed, getting points by answering accurately and fast. The faster the greater. Then, it will be your opponents turn. And so on. After one of you gets 5 wrong answers it will be the end of the game. The categories available are: History, table manners, greetings, work habits, clothing, miscellany and opponents question. At the end of the game you will be able to add your opponent to your community if you want. That way you can play once more with him/her or just keep in touch and learning from other cultures.
