Automotive design oriented accessibility: development of an electric vehicle for wheelchair users
This paper proposes a design of an electric and hybrid vehicle, which consists in an electric minicar, a motorized wheelchair and an electric tricycle, that is aimed to people with physical disabilities. This project intends to reduce the number of necessary supports to ensure security and autonomy to the person with special needs, especially in urban centers.
Through the functions of industrial products (practical, aesthetic and symbolic), the developed vehicle project seeks to operate in society as an artifact of social inclusion. The result found in the research was the development of a changeable design that includes, in different settings, indoors, like shopping malls and urban traffic.
